A 35-year-old Zambian man, named Edward Makayi, who is a student studying engineering at a privately-owned university has been allegedly arrested for insulting President Edgar Lungu and some of his government officials on Facebook.
According to Zambian police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo, Edward who is now in custody and scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 27, 2017, was accused of creating a Facebook account under fake names and defaming the president. Adding that he is also accused of defaming some government ministers, members of the governing party, the President’s press aide and the head of the Zambian police.
