Professional mixed martial artist (MMA) Jon Koppenhaver, aka War Machine, and porn actress Christy Mack flaunted their affections on social media, and even posed naked together in magazines.

So ,when their relationship turned violently sour, every sordid detail was played out in court. After getting together with War, she even had a tattoo that read ‘Property of War Machine’ on her right shoulder, cementing their status.By August 2014, Christy had a new boyfriend, Corey Thomas, who was the owner of a digital company.

They’d been dating just two months when tragedy struck.
On the night of 8 August, they were together in the bedroom of Christy’s Vegas home when War broke in, stormed into the bedroom and flicked on the lights.

In seconds, he had Corey in a headlock, punching and choking him, while Christy begged him hysterically to stop.
She dialled 911, leaving the phone hidden. Christy could be heard screaming in the recording.

After 10 minutes, Corey told War that he either had to kill him, or let him go.
War released him and warned him not to call the police. Then War turned violent towards Christy.

For two hours, he beat, kicked and punched his ex. He sexually assaulted her and watched her drift in and out of consciousness. When War went to the kitchen for a knife, Christy saw her opportunity.

Naked and bleeding, she ran out of the house and begged a neighbour for help. It was War’s cue to go on the run.

In hospital, Christy discovered she had 18 broken bones, missing teeth, a fractured rib and a ruptured liver. She even needed plastic surgery as part of her recovery. Corey had a broken nose, a dislocated shoulder and bite marks.

War was arrested a week later in a hotel room in Simi Valley, California. As he was charged, he was dropped by his fight promoter and his clothing line. While awaiting trial, he tried to commit suicide.

War, now 35, turned down plea deals and faced a jury this year.
In March, War was found guilty of 29 felony charges, including kidnapping, beating and sexual assault.

From prison, War tweeted his relief at the guilty verdict, saying that being in prison had saved him, and quoted a Johnny Cash lyric in a tweet that read:

‘Oh I knew I had it comin’, I knew I couldn’t be free…’

He also apologised to Christy. ‘I am sorry for the man that I was, I am sorry for hurting you. One day, when enough time has passed and when your wounds are fully healed, I hope that you will write to me, or, perhaps, even visit me, so that I can apologise completely.’
War was sentenced to life in prison with a chance of parole after 36 years.
