A mother has taken the brave decision to show the recovery she has made as she overcomes heroin addiction.

Melissa Lee Matos says she never really intended to share the images of her when she was at her lowest, but she believes too many people are dying and she wants it to stop.

She has now been clean for a year and five months.

The picture of her slumped in her bathroom at her home in West Virginia was taken by her husband after her daughters walked in on her.

This is what she said: ‘I have NEVER shared these before. I’m not sure I ever intended to. This is extremely hard for me in so many ways. However, too many people are dying.
