Pay your tax within nine months or be sent to jail- Osinbajo warns tax evaders

Acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, Thursday gave a nine-month grace to all tax evaders to regularize their tax status or face criminal prosecution. Osinbajo gave the ultimatum at the inauguration of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDs) in Abuja Thursday June 29th. 

According to Osinbajo, the new scheme which is an initiative of the Buhari-led administration, was specially designed to help taxpayers, who had not declared their taxable incomes and assets, as well as those who don’t pay at all, and those who had been underpaying or under remitting, to correct their irregularities. Osinbajo said the scheme would cover all federal and state taxes such as companies’ income tax, personal income tax, petroleum profit tax, capital gains tax, stamp duties and tertiary education tax.

Ethnic agitations: Acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, meets with media heads/practitioners

As part of his consultations towards finding a lasting solution to the ethnic agitations expressed in many parts of the country, acting president Yemi Osinbajo, last night met with media practitioners in the country. The meeting took place at the state house Abuja. Among those in attendance were newspaper publishers, Editors, and members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

Osinbajo enjoined media practitioners to stop propagating the message of hate speech campaigners. More photos after the cut.

Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, condemns recent ethnic attacks in Taraba, orders deployment of extra military officers to the state

Acting president Yemi Osinbajo, has condemned the outbreak of crisis in some communities in Taraba state that has led to the death of over 100 people and destruction of property worth millions.

The renewed crisis started in in Mambilla Plateau on Monday and spread to some other neighboring communities. According to reports, Fulani herdsmen in the affected communities recorded the most casualties.

In a statement released on his Facebook page, Osinbajo offered his condolence to the families affected by the crisis. He has also ordered military reinforcement in the communities affected and also for relief materials to be made available to members of the affected communities.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently in Maiduguri, Borno state for the flag-off of Multi-Billion Naira food intervention for Northeast.

Osinbajo’s visit is coming hours after Boko Haram terrorists launched multiple attacks in some areas in Maiduguri, burning houses and leaving over fourteen people dead and scores injured.

The acting president was received at the Maiduguri International Airport on Thursday, June 8th, by Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, his Bauch State counterpart, Mohammed Abubakar, Yobe State Deputy Governor, Abubakar Ali, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.. Gen. TY Buratai, Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Bra. Solomon Dalung, among others.
